We dined at The Longhorn Steakhouse in Deptford, NJ upon returning from a show, Shen Yun, at the Merriam Theater in Philadelphia. (The show was wonderful, by the way.)
I had not been to this restaurant in quite a few months, and I wanted to try their Prime Rib, but the waitress said the only cut remaining was well – done. I prefer medium-rare. The fact that they were out of any other cuts of the Prime Rib at that time of day, 5:00 pm, was surprising. This was the beginning of the dinner hour and they no longer had a popular menu item!! The chef evidently did not plan well.
My choice, then, was the Ribeye since the waitress told me that it had a similar taste. I ordered a Sweet Potato with butter and cinnamon on the side, and it was served with a Side Salad.
The steak was cooked to a medium-rare, and it was tender except for the end pieces which were hard to eat. The Sweet Potato was huge and delicious. I could not eat all of it. I used little of the butter and cinnamon. The Salad pieces were rather large and edible, however, it would have tasted much better with smaller cuts of the ingredients.
My sister had the Wild West Shrimp which was delicious. The other person in our party had a Big Sky Burger with French Fries. He said it was also tasty.
I ordered a Pinot Noir to go along with the steak. It was mild with no after taste, and not robust – too easy to drink. It tasted as though it needed a few more months aging before the full flavor of the grapes could be realized.
Our waitress seemed to get lost at times when we needed refills on our beverages, takeout boxes, and our check. She eventually showed up.
I give the Longhorn Steakhouse in Deptford, NJ 3 and 1/2 plates.
