Malaga Diner
3433 Harding Highway
Franklinville, NJ 08322
My husband and I went to the Malaga Diner for breakfast around 10:00 am on Monday, September 10, 2018. We had intended to dine at The Pegasus Diner which is across the street, but the parking lot was full. There were a few cars in the lot, so we were pretty sure we could be served right away.
There were not many tables occupied. We were shown to our table by a friendly greeter who showed us to a table right away. It did not take more than five minutes for our smiling waitress to also welcome us and take our drink order.
She was prompt and careful with placing our drinks on the table. I ordered the Western Omelet made with egg whites. It came with Home Fries and Rye Toast – my choice. The omelet was very good, and the first time I have had egg whites actually look like a real omelet. The Home Fries were good, but they lacked much flavor. I had to add salt and pepper, and perhaps, I should have ordered them made with onions. My side order was Corned Beef Hash. It was okay, but lacked the true flavor of fresh corned beef. I gave it to my husband after a few bites.
My husband ordered the Sausage & Gravy over four biscuits which was Huge. His side order was Scrapple which he also enjoyed although it looked like it had been cooked too long. The atmosphere was a friendly one.
The interior of the Malaga Diner needs work. Some of the booth seats were well worn with tears in the covering. It was dark with very little lighting, and its resemblance to a diner car on a train is evident to the right of the entrance which is okay. But, with renovations across the street this diner really needs to improve its overall appearance instead of adding more items to the menu to attract customers.
I will give the Malaga Diner 3 and 1/2 plates.
