Friday, August 3, 2018 was a day on the beach in Fortescue, NJ.  My husband and I had taken three of our grandchildren to surf fish, two of whom enjoyed splashing in the water more than holding a fishing pole since they had only a nibble and were unable to catch anything.

We arrived around ten o’clock in the morning and were gone by noon because of an upcoming storm with dark blue clouds.  On the way back my husband decided to stop at Shannon’s Sub Shop (2558 Cedar Street, Millville, NJ) at the corner of Cedar Street and Buckshutem Road in Cumberland County.  As you can see from the sign, they open at 6:00 am every day and serve only breakfast and lunch.

One patron was seated when we arrived and others came in before we left.  There was no problem being seated or placing our order.

I ordered a cheeseburger as did one of my granddaughters.  The other along with my grandson ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with french fries.  My husband had a breakfast of two eggs over-easy with scrapple and home fries.  He loved his afternoon breakfast with a Dr Pepper.  My cheeseburger was pretty good, and my granddaughter liked hers also.  Their french fries were delicious and so were the grilled cheese sandwiches.  They had a variety of soft drinks, tea, and bottled water.

This is a perfect place to go when you have had a busy day at the beach and you look like it:  my hair was flat from the floppy hat I had worn, my pants were baggy, my shoes had sand in them, and I looked like I really could use some good food and a shower; my grandchildren had wet spots on their shorts and shirts; and my husband had fish-bait residue on his pants.  (We washed our hands before eating)

But, at this South Jersey Eatery owned by Ms. Catherine, no one seemed to mind how we looked.  She and one of her granddaughters, who was a waitress, were both very friendly, polite, and genuinely happy people.

We will continue to frequent this quaint restaurant when we are on Buchshutem Road, and perhaps you will also.  I will give them 3 and 1/2 plates.
